Tommy woke at 6:15 on a Wednesday to the sun just beginning to glow on the horizon. He wasn’t the type of person that needed an alarm to wake up - he was much too organized for that; too on top of things. And the moment he woke he immediately began planning his day. It was the last week in February and he wanted to file his taxes that week. Before the 1st of month, he needed to pay his credit card bills, make his car payment, his mortgage payment. At work, he had a Friday deadline. He was in charge of the quarterly earnings report which meant he was just waiting on the rest of March to fill in the remaining revenue and billings data. He thought about his wife’s birthday, which was in two weeks, and knew that he needed to figure out a gift for it soon or it would seem half-assed. He needed to call his mother and make sure that she was okay and that her left thigh was healing properly from the ice she slipped on a month prior. He thought about all of these things. All the goals he had. All the expectations he had spent his entire life living up to. And for the first time in Tommy’s life, he was tired of it all, so he rolled over and went back to sleep.
